July’s Theme: Remember God’s Love

Steve Behlke   -

We forget things all the time—where we put our keys, what we walked into the room for, or that one password we wrote down “somewhere.” But one of the most important things we can forget is God’s love.

That’s why Grace United’s theme for July is: Remember God’s love.

Not just on Sundays. But in everyday life.

God’s Word shows and tells us about God’s great love, which He revealed most transparently on the cross. Yet He continues to show it daily: in how He guides, provides, protects, corrects, forgives, and carries us. His love is personal. It meets us where we are. It invites us to walk with Him daily.

Why Remembering Matters

Yet, God knows how quickly our hearts can drift. This is why the book of Deuteronomy constantly urges believers to remember God’s character, love, rescue, presence, and promises.

Deuteronomy 6:12 “So watch yourselves, that you do not forget the Lord who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.”

Remembering God’s love means remembering His love in action. It reminds us that His love isn’t just sentimental—it’s fierce, forgiving, guiding, and correcting.

Remembering God’s love means remembering His love in action. It reminds us that His love isn’t just sentimental—it’s fierce, forgiving, guiding, and correcting.

Remembering His love means recalling our need for Him as well. There are times that we must recall how He has rescued, delivered, and protected us time and again. It stokes faith. It grounds us in hope.

Remembering keeps us humble, grateful, worshipful, and reliant.

Why Forgetting is Destructive

When we forget God’s love, we tend to:

  • Take control instead of trusting Him
  • Feel insecure and compare ourselves to others
  • Try to prove ourselves instead of receiving grace
  • Judge more quickly and love more slowly
  • Lose peace, confidence, and joy

When we remember His love, it realigns everything.

How Do We Remember God’s Love?

Here are a few simple but powerful ways:

1. Remember Through His Word

The Bible is full of reminders of God’s love. Read it. Let God speak to you through it. Mark or highlight verses that remind you of His character and faithfulness. Memorize one.

Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

2. Remember, With the Church

Worshiping, praying, learning, and walking with other believers keeps us grounded. We forget less when we’re surrounded by people who remind us of the truth. Community keeps our hearts steady.

3. Remember Through Self-Awareness and Grace

Like Deuteronomy 9:7 reminds us, we remember God’s love in light of our failures. Not to shame ourselves, but to magnify His grace. When we’re honest about our inabilities, we can be even more amazed by His mercy.

4. Recall Your Own Story

God’s love has shown up in your life before again and again—even in surprising ways. Think about it: When did God carry you? Speak to you? Provide for you? Remembering these helps you to follow Him today.

Don’t Forget to Remember

Life moves so fast. We all forget. That’s why God tells us to reflect, connect, and remember His love again and again.

You are loved. You are chosen. You are not alone. God has shown you His love on the cross, in His Word, through His people, and in your life.

You are loved. You are chosen. You are not alone. God has shown you His love on the cross, in His Word, through His people, and in your life. When we remember, we see His love in all that we have, sunny days, rainstorms, loved ones, full shelves, every meal, and each breath.

Remember it. Live from it. And let it shape the way you love others.
