June’s Theme: Receive God’s Love

Steve Behlke   -

Let’s be honest—we all want to be loved. That’s not a weakness; it’s a deep part of being human. God designed us with a longing for love, and when our “love tank” is full, life just feels more hopeful. It’s easier to forgive, to show kindness, and to love others freely.

But when we’re running low on love, we struggle. We might become controlling, try to perform our way into being accepted, or sink into discouragement. It gets harder to love others well, and we often forget that we’re already loved deeply and unconditionally by God.

This month, we’re focusing on the simple but powerful invitation to receive God’s love. Not just hear about it, preach about it, or try to deserve it—but receive it.

Why Receiving God’s Love Matters

God’s love isn’t something we earn or achieve. It’s a gift already given. And like any gift, it must be received—daily. Receiving His love shapes the way we see ourselves, others, and even God Himself.

When we don’t live from a place of being loved, we jump into performance mode. But when we allow God to fill us with His love, we’re strengthened on the inside. We find peace and hope. And we become people who can truly love God and others.

1 John 4:19 We love, because He first loved us.

How Do We Receive God’s Love?

There’s not a single formula. But here are a few everyday ways we can open ourselves to God’s love:

1. Believe His Word

Read Scripture like it’s written to you—because it is. Let His truth replace the lies you’ve believed. Passages like Psalm 103, Romans 8, John 15, and 1 John 4 remind us of His committed love.

1 John 3:1 See how great a love the Father has given us, that we would be called children of God; and we are.

Receiving God’s love means submitting to it. Let Him love you on His terms. Let Him forgive you. Let Him protect you. Look at the cross and let God show you how much you mean to Him.

2. Listen to His Spirit

God’s Spirit is in us for a purpose—speaking through His Word, a gentle nudge, a moment of conviction, or a quiet assurance. Pay attention. God may be whispering, “You are my child. I love you. I’ve got you.”

3. Submit to His Love

Sometimes we resist God’s love without even realizing it. We feel unworthy. We think we need to prove something. But receiving God’s love means submitting to it. Let Him love you on His terms. Let Him forgive you. Let Him protect you. Look at the cross and let God show you how much you mean to Him. Stop running. Say “yes” to His grace.

4. Follow His Loving Lead

God doesn’t just tell us He loves us—He also shows us how to walk in that love through His promises and commands. His guidance is always an invitation to walk in the freedom and life His love brings. Our obedience enables God to manifest and us to experience His love through applied wisdom, protection, and guidance.

Jesus said,

John 15:9 Just as the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you; remain in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

5. Experience His Love in Community

Sometimes, we receive God’s love through the love of His people. Don’t isolate. Show up, join in worship, open up in your group, share your burdens, and let someone pray for you, or simply receive a kind word as a gift from God.

Let Him Love You

Our prayer this month is simple: that you’ll let God love you. That you’ll stop striving and start receiving. His love isn’t small, fleeting, or based on your performance. It’s one-way, steadfast, personal, and present. It is not merely sentimental; it is active and powerful, a commitment towards your best.

When you let God love you, you’ll find yourself better able to love and forgive others and loving Him with more joy.

Listen. Believe. Submit.
Receive God’s love.
