Loving God is the Key to Experiencing Abundant Life.

Last time we discussed loving God above all else and how this flows from experiencing His love for us. This makes one wonder how we cultivate that kind of devotion in practical terms. How do we truly love God supremely?

As 1 John 4:19 reminds us, the answer is that we must start with God’s love.

1 John 4:19 We love because He first loved us.

Everything else follows from there. We can’t love God until we understand and receive His love for us and let it sink deep into our hearts and minds. As Ephesians 5:1-2 tells us, we can walk in love ourselves only as beloved children of God, knowing the depth of His fatherly love.

Ephesians 5:1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us…

When God’s love for us takes root in our hearts and minds, it transforms our identity.

We see ourselves not based on performance or what others think but rooted in the unshakable truth that God deeply cherishes us.

We see ourselves not based on performance or what others think but rooted in the unshakable truth that God deeply cherishes us. And with that assurance, we find the motivation even to love others.

Those who can receive love, and love others in return are awesome people to be! And awesome to be around.

This is why loving God is so pivotal: it unlocks the very best version of ourselves. As we know, His love for us can affect every area of life. We can treat people differently, make better choices, and find a wellspring of inner peace that the world can’t shake.

So, loving God is the key to experiencing abundant life.
