True Peace Is Found in Jesus

Steve Behlke   -

I want to talk to you about something so many of us are searching for—peace. Many think peace is something we find within ourselves, like if we can control our situation or emotions, we’ll achieve it. But that doesn’t work so hot; something beyond our control always robs our peace.

Reality alert, peace isn’t something we can manufacture ourselves. True peace is a gift that can only come from God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Without Jesus, we are separated from God due to our sins and failures. Honestly, none of us has it all together. We’ve all messed up and done things to damage our relationship with God. None of us can fix what we’ve done or start doing all the right things.

Jesus is the only one who can reconcile us through His sacrificial sacrifice on the cross. When we trust in God’s Son and what He did for us on the cross, God no longer sees our sins but instead sees us as righteous through faith in Christ. At that moment, we are given eternal peace with God.

Peace comes when you believe and submit to the beautiful truth that God the Father has forgiven your sins through Jesus’ work on the cross.

We are wise to envision the Savior, God’s Son, paying for our sins with His life, deliberately covering us with His perfect righteousness, and take to heart Jesus’ words that you are forgiven, loved, and fully accepted by My Father.

Jesus doesn’t only provide peace with God but also offers ongoing peace that nothing can disturb. This peace is rooted in a day-by-day, relational trust in Jesus Christ as Lord. God’s very promise of peace invites us into a very personal interaction with Him,

Philippians 4:5… The Lord is near. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

And look what happens when we pray and act on the truths we believe. Two sentences later, Paul says,

Philippians 4:9 The things you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me, practice these, and the God of peace will be with you.

“The Lord is near.” Act on that. Make your requests known. Share what upsets you. Act in the power of your beliefs about God, and “the God of peace (I love that name for God) will be with you” experientially, in power. Believe this.

This peace is found when it grips your core that God is greater than you know and far more loving, powerful, and personally involved than you imagine.

And friends, there’s an even better piece still to come. Jesus is preparing a place where we will fully experience peace without end. One day He will return to wipe away every tear, defeat every enemy, and make all things new in a kingdom of perfect righteousness, justice, and peace on Earth—no more sorrow, suffering, or death.

Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore.

This peace awaits the future, but it brings hope and joy to the believer in any circumstance today.

These are promises that can get me through anything. That in Christ, there is peace with God right now, peace in every circumstance, and peace in the kingdom and the world to come. Are you facing worries you feel can’t be resolved? Turn to Jesus in faith. He offers peace with God now and eternal peace in the future. Why not receive His gift today?
