Understanding Grace and Our Need For It

Steve Behlke   -

In a world where everything seems to come with strings attached, there exists a gift like no other—a gift of grace that is freely given, with no expectations or conditions.

When we speak of God’s grace, grace is unmerited acceptance and undeserved’s favor. Grace describes God’s infinite generosity, unfathomable forgiveness, and extravagant acceptance through Jesus Christ. It is a free gift with absolutely no strings attached. Grace defines how God the Father seeks to relate to you, personally.

Grace is nothing new, it’s as old as God. And it’s seen in His interactions from Genesis to Revelation.

Grace is reflected in God’s decision to create us knowing that people would deny that He made us.

It is seen in the Father’s inexplicable choice to love us knowing that we would never love Him apart from His grace changing our hearts.

Grace is exemplified in our Lord’s willingness to lay down His life for sinful people who, in their fallen state, would even seek to harm Him.

Grace is exemplified in our Lord’s willingness to lay down His life for sinful people who, in their fallen state, would even seek to harm Him.

Grace is found in God’s unwavering choice to spend eternity with us at such a cost to Himself. And for what?

Grace is YHWH’s one-way, self-giving love for selfish, sinful men and women who deserve anything but favor and acceptance.

Grace is shown in the Ascended Christ’s promise to never condemn those who trust Him, even if we forsake Him, He will never forsake us. Never. Such is His grace.

Grace is the Holy Spirit’s power working through your weaknesses.

We can go on. But pretty much, whatever is freely done for us that we could not do is grace.

Whatever is freely done for us that we could not do is grace.

Whatever is freely given to us that we could never afford is grace.

Whatever is freely credited to us that we could never earn is grace.

Whatever is freely changed in us that we could not change is grace.

Whatever is freely offered to us that we do not deserve is grace.

Whoever is freely chosen by God that would never have chosen God is grace.
